As the Calendar Turns

It’s the night of new years eve. The bright lights from the stadium (referring to TQL Stadium) reflect off the low hanging clouds giving them an otherworldly orange glow. I am staying in (It’s freezing outside! Sorry, no nature notes from today.), eating leftovers, and going to bed at a reasonable hour. Boring perhaps, but a relaxing evening at home is one of my favorite things. (Not to mention a girl needs her beauty sleep!)

I complete the last entry in my journal (I am using this one from Hobonichi again) and say good bye to 2025. My new journal is almost ready, the smooth ivory pages just waiting to be filled. So inspiring!

May good things come to pass. May we be happy and healthy as we move into the new year.

Awake early to find the most delicate dusting of snow, as if someone had sprinkled the world with a touch of powdered sugar. It’s cold. The sky is still half-dark, even though sunrise is at 7:57 am (EST). Light is slowly filling the cloudy sky. If the current amount of visible sunlight was the outcome of a battle between the sun and the clouds… I’d say the clouds are winning.

The nearly full moon had set long before I came downstairs, but I wouldn’t have been able to see it anyway (too overcast). Peak illumination for my location will occur around 5 am on Saturday. I will keep an eye out for it over the next few nights. The January full Moon, also known as the Wolf Moon, will be the first supermoon of 20261. Please see my previous post for more information about supermoons.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, “It’s thought that January’s Full Moon came to be known as the Wolf Moon because wolves were more likely to be heard howling at this time. It was traditionally believed that wolves howled due to hunger during winter, but we know today that isn’t accurate. Howling and other wolf vocalizations are heard in the wintertime to locate pack members, reinforce social bonds, define territory, and coordinate hunting.”

Happy New Year!

The following text is from the Seasonfold Instagram account.

As the calendar turns, the days slowly begin to lengthen. The light returns—almost imperceptibly at first—bringing with it a quiet sense of renewal and possibility. This moment is less about abrupt change and more about gentle continuation: a fresh beginning shaped by mindful consideration rather than urgency.

Across cultures, this time of year has long been associated with renewal and purification. It is an invitation to clear what no longer serves, to make space for rest and reflection, and to set intentions that can unfold gradually, in rhythm with the season.

May the year ahead offer you moments of clarity, steadiness, and growth—guided not by haste, but by the soft, returning light.

Sparkling winter sunshine, face all aglow, making resolutions, and angels in the snow – steaming cups of cocoa, a year that’s fresh and new…all of this is magic – unfolding just for you.

“It is an invitation to clear what no longer serves…” this is a favorite practice of mine, and can be done during any season, but it does seem especially timely in the new year.

Yes I agree! A good thing to revisit from time to time, it’s nice to have a reminder.
