Wednesday, December 10, 2025 December Rain A wet and wild day with random strong gusts of wind. The sky was quite heavily overcast earlier, making for a very sleepy and slow start to the morning. It’s now past noon and it seems that the rain has passed, leaving everything outdoors looking damp and soggy. The understory shrubs have finally (for the most part) lost their leaves, so that practically everything outside my window has been […]

Snow Blankets the Earth
I woke to find the world transformed and everything covered in a fluffy blanket of white. It looked like more than the 3″ we were predicted to get, so I opened the back door to measure. Plunged the ruler in to find roughly 4.5″ of snow. Amazing! This kind of snowfall almost never happens here, so I am delighted.

A deeply quiet and overcast day. The raindrops make a soft pitter-patter sound as they land on the roof hatch. Misty trailing clouds hang low over the huddled brick buildings. I am grateful for a peaceful morning of calm. It’s not normally this quiet in the city, so I enjoy it while it lasts.

An aerial dance across the November sky. Tuesday, November 18, 2025 Grey and heavily overcast with misty clouds hanging low over the city. The rainfall, sometimes soft other times more intense, was accompanied by numerous lightning strikes. One of which was very close by… I was started by its sudden flash and loud burst of thunder. Humid and foggy conditions continued overnight into the next day. November 20, 2025 Leaves keep flying past the window […]
Continue readingA Sudden Cold Snap
I awoke to discover a light dusting of white powder and shortly thereafter, more snow began to fall. Tiny little flakes at first, then larger fluffy ones, swirling down out of the sky. I don’t know why, but watching the snow just makes me happy.
Continue readingLeaves Crunch Underfoot
You know it’s truly autumn when dry leaves crunch beneath your feet as you walk down the street. Some of the trees are nearly bare and a chill hangs in the air. The Moon, shrouded in soft misty clouds, peers down at you from between the empty tree branches. Thanksgiving is coming!
Continue readingAll Hallows Eve
The day dawned to reveal heavy grey clouds and a wet cityscape. A cold and raw morning. The overnight rain, which started around 3 am, seems to have ceased for the moment. The darling cats ask to go outside but then immediately refuse once they see the state of the weather.
Continue readingThe Cold Creeps In
Very chilly start to the morning, the temperature was down to 44°F. Cold in the house for the first time since last winter. I wish we could have a fire. The sky seems extra clear and bright after yesterday’s dark and stormy weather.
Continue readingThe Air is Cool
October 13, 2025 It’s a chilly Monday morning, still half-dark around 7:30 am. More fog over the river valley. The air has a weird unpleasant smell that I’ve always associated with some kind of pork or sausage factory. This city is known as “Porkopolis” after all. It could also be coming from a local brewery. In truth, I don’t really know what it is, but I know I could do without it. More Osage oranges […]
Continue readingThe Waning Gibbous Moon Glows
October 8, 2025 Awake before the sunrise to find clear skies and a glowing waning gibbous Moon (still close to full) looking large and bright in the western sky. I missed the recent full Moon, seeing it the day before and the day after, but not at peak illumination. Ah well, more supermoons are coming in the months ahead. What is a supermoon, you might ask? According to NASA, “A supermoon occurs when a full Moon coincides […]
