It was my last night in Connecticut. Evening was closing in. I decided to step away for a bit and go for one final walk by myself. I was immediately rewarded for following my intuition. The timing could not have been more perfect. The glow of the setting sun illuminated the hayfield, turning it from green to gold.

A Strawberry Outing
We take our time, strolling down the farm lane, taking in the countryside views. A little further along, the delicious smell of ripe strawberries fills the air. Row upon row of plants stretches out before us. Where do you think the best picking might be?
Continue readingWhen April Feels Like May
The first thing I noticed upon leaving the house was that all of the typical springtime flowers are done and gone. We already have quite a few of what I grew up calling “summer” flowers. Some iris, a few peony (although mostly spent at this point), and lots of roses are blooming.
Continue readingThe World is Awake Again
Spring is well on its way and things are rapidly unfolding. Most of March felt like nothing was happening but now things are changing in leaps and bounds. Signs of new growth are multiplying like a fireworks display approaching the finale, with overlapping sounds and bursts of color everywhere you look. It seems everyday there is something new blooming or leafing out.

Friday, December 12, 2025 Snow overnight! Looks like we got about 1.5″. It stopped falling sometime after 7 am. Somehow its already begun to melt, even though its below freezing (30°F). Very chilly start to the morning, the temperature was down to 44°F. Cold in the house for the first time since last winter. I wish we could have a fire. The sky seems extra clear and bright after yesterday’s dark and stormy weather.

October 13, 2025 It’s a chilly Monday morning, still half-dark around 7:30 am. More fog over the river valley. The air has a weird unpleasant smell that I’ve always associated with some kind of pork or sausage factory. This city is known as “Porkopolis” after all. It could also be coming from a local brewery. In truth, I don’t really know what it is, but I know I could do without it. More Osage oranges […]

Sunday, September 28, 2025 I have been absent for many days due to a bad head cold (and other health related issues). Today is the second clear day after a span of much needed rainy weather. Slight haziness along the horizon but otherwise a perfectly blue sky. A beautiful day. Here are a few things I have noticed this past week when I managed to make it outside. The Osage Orange Tree near the end […]
