Blame it on the Lunar New Year and the vibrant energy of the Fire Horse, or perhaps its simply the slow return of sunlight. Whatever the reason, I have been feeling a growing pull toward creative pursuits beyond writing. Namely, nature journaling on little blank postcards.

Winter Storms & Seasonal Food
Damp, and yet, not quite precipitating. Fairly warm, around 60°F at 10:52 am. By afternoon, the sun had started to break through the clouds. A bit windy with intermittent strong gusts. I took advantage of the warm spell and opened a few windows to let in some fresh air.

The wind is howling through the trees, causing their branches to sway wildly. The unseasonably warm (57°F) rain from yesterday has been replaced overnight by below freezing temperatures (26°F) and harsh winds. A smattering of ice pellets has been sprinkled about. I braved the cold and the wind to try to take a few photographs… I’m not sure it was worth it.

I woke to find the world transformed and everything covered in a fluffy blanket of white. It looked like more than the 3″ we were predicted to get, so I opened the back door to measure. Plunged the ruler in to find roughly 4.5″ of snow. Amazing! This kind of snowfall almost never happens here, so I am delighted.

A deeply quiet and overcast day. The raindrops make a soft pitter-patter sound as they land on the roof hatch. Misty trailing clouds hang low over the huddled brick buildings. I am grateful for a peaceful morning of calm. It’s not normally this quiet in the city, so I enjoy it while it lasts.
